The idea for Orphan & Widow came to me recently, but I believe it really is an answer to a prayer that I have been praying for a long time now. I have had a heart for missions, particularly poverty-stricken areas, for over a decade but am still in a season of waiting before it is my time to "go". I am a strong believer that all followers of Christ are commanded to participate in the furthering of the Gospel, and if you are not a "go-er" than you are to be a "sender". Hence, my struggle in recent years-my husband and I have a very limited income in which to send from while he  is in school, not to mention an economy that is causing everyone to struggle. But our Lord is bigger than our financial situations, and He has recently convicted me of using other means to support missionaries and those tilling the soil on foreign ground. He has given each of us gifts, and these are to be used for His glory, not just our enjoyment.

       Just recently a special couple gave me an incredible gift- a camera I have been saving for and desiring for a long time. For no reason at all- they just gave it to me! Actually, they said, "We want to encourage your gift..." And out of that desire Orphan & Widow is being birthed. I am not a great photographer, but I have a desire to become better and to use the skill to raise awareness of poverty and the needs of God's people. I have decided that I will start shooting photo sessions for people and whatever income is generated will go directly toward supporting those carrying the Gospel to far away places, and to those carrying it to the needy in our own community. There is no price tag on the sessions, freeing people to give as much or as little as they have to give at the time. So, it works well for everyone- cheap photography that is sending forth the Gospel and raising awareness of needs for some tangible Good News, both at home and across the world.
